I have seen Peter Murphy live three times now (twice solo and once with Bauhaus) and his level of professionalism is amazingly consistent. He looked bummed out (maybe he had the flu) for the Bauhaus concert but he still hit every note.
As for the St. Pete show, Murphy played to his diehard fan's sunny disposition early on before getting into some classics later into the show. The crowd sipped every drop of gravy that he dished out from his ladle.
Peter's disdain for a crowd that he thought to be lowbrow was quietly obvious even though the audience interpreted his condescension as English indifference. Murphy slyly made fun of Floridians when he performed in Orlando's House of Blues last year and the crowd obliviously ate it up.
Murphy's "Bela Lugosi's Dead" and cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" was priceless. The fact that Peter does Bowie covers better than Bowie (remember the "Ziggy Stardust" cover reminds me how Peter was as talented as any of his contemporaries but never quite the stardom stage as his lesser or equally talented peers.
