The show could be nothing else but perfect. Don and his musicians played and sang a variety of his most and less famous numbers, all of which I have been joining in with since buying every LP in the 70's. His words and music are the best. Well worth the 3500 mile trip from England and the venue is definately worth a look.

My wife and I enjoyed the show immensely. Don sang all of the old favorites and some tunes that I had never heard him sing before, and he sounded great. And I love seeing my favorite performers at B.B. King's, the place is just the right size (I hate stadiums) and the food is good too.

Don McLean put on a good show. Of course, he does not have the voice that he had 40 years ago, but nobody would expect that. Voice was a little strained early in the show, but he got better as the concert went on. Concert was a mix of familiar songs from his albums, as well as some newer songs and country songs. Just enough schmoozing with the audience so as not to take time away from the music. Brought the house down with American Pie as the finale. He added to the energy in the room during the song by extending it with some instrumental verses. Also repeated about half the song to keep the momentum going. Did one encore. Autographed CDs and DVDs which were for sale. Of course, some people brought album covers for him to sign.

He was great, strong voice, good songs, band good. He started on time, personable. I certainly would recommend him to people over 50 who know him.

I thought I went to see Don sing Vincent and American pie be but I was blown away with his rendition of "since I don't have you" talk about a falsetto and hitting high notes... holy cow!

I went to this concert expecting a "one hit wonder" and came out with so much more! Don McLean is very versatile and talented. He sang everything from classic soft rock to country to Christmas songs. His playing/singing of "Vincent " was absolutely beautiful. Of course "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" was the evening favorite and much fun to sing along.

I can't remember the last time Don McLean toured in the Seattle area, so I was so excited to see him live. And I left the show with one reaction: meh. Yes, he did American Pie and Vincent - two terrific songs - but he seemed to be just going through the paces with the rest of the set. A nice touch was adding a few Christmas carols at the end of the show, but he just didn't have any energy. I stood in line to buy a CD and get it autographed after the show. He looked up kind of blankly when I handed it to him and didn't say anything before handing it back. And I guess that sums up my reaction to the show.

I first saw Don McLean play in about 1974 on the University of Florida campus with Richie Havens. He hasn't missed a beat. He seems genuinely happy to be there sharing his music with us. He also sang a bunch of traditional Christmas songs, that warmed the room. He's a national treasure, and if you get the chance, don't miss him.

It's been about 30 years since I saw Don McLean perform. When he began, I thought he had lost his singing voice. But it grew stronger and better as he went on. He's no longer svelt or young, but he still has the magic that inspired the song "Killing Me Softly". I'm sorry we couldn't get any friends to go with us this time, but we will go see him again, and I won't wait another 30 years!

This performer and this venue were made for each other.
I'd lived and worked in Alexandria for 30 years and had never set foot in The Birchmere. It turned out to be an intimate, congenial setting with outstanding food and staff.
Don Mclean was in good form, both musically and personally. His stories and observations were priceless.

Don is always an amazing showman and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Birchmere. He doesn't always have an opening act, I assume the venue decides that. We could have done without this one. After getting in line at 3:30 for a 7:30 show it is a bit much, due to General Admission procedures, to wait another hour, it was almost unbearable. Alas, when he came on stage, all was forgotten. Great show.

Excellent show! He had a good selection of songs and it was great having the chance to finally see him after all these years. The mood and tempo were "just right." Also, hearing "American Pie" live is something that every American should experience at least once in his or her lifetime.

His voice sounds great, he was very interactive with the audience, but the concert seemed short to us at 1 1/2 hours. Also, most of our favorite Don McClean songs were not sung. Of course he did a fabulous job with American Pie as the closing song. There were no encores.

I was concerned about whether Don McLean still had his voice at this point. The good news is that he can still sing. Unfortunately, the good news stops there.
I don't know what's the worst; paying high rates for folding chairs, the rudeness of concertgoers texting and sharing pictures during the entire event, or what a truly lousy lyricist McLean has become. He was great many years ago; now he's not even mediocre.
All in all, not money well spent.
