I grew up listening to Heart, and they have been one of my favorite bands ever since I can remember. When I saw that a scheduled performance was in my area, I jumped at the chance to buy tickets (even though they were extremely high in price--higher than most). Unfortunately, the performance wasn't what I had expected. They made us wait more than 45 minutres before coming out on stage, and it just got worse from there on out. Anne's voice was "stressed" and she seemed to be struggling through most of her performance, and Nancy's guitar was out of tune more than not during the entire first half of the show. For some reason, Nancy also thought that it might be nice to add a harmonica solo during the band's performance of "Never," but it was nothing short of being terrible (stick to the guitar, Nancy). The song selections were weak (in fact a few of them I'd never heard before, and after hearing them, I knew why), and instead of sticking to performing their own songs, they decided to play cover tunes instead, e.g., Rain on Me by The Who and The Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin. Heart has so many hits, they shouldn't have to supplement their set list with any covers! I paid to see them perform their songs, not someone elses. (Note: I recently saw Nickleback in concert, and they did the same thing with playing covers. I don't know, maybe this is becoming a norm within the industry, but it sucks!) Also the timing of a lot of the songs was off--mostly slower than what it should have been. They didn't play any of my all time favorites, such as Alone, Even It Up, Heartless, Straight On, Magic Man or If Looks Could Kill. And since they came out on stage so late, the concert itself was short. I guess I expected a lot more from such a high caliber band and especially considering the prices they charge for just one of their tickets. I saw them perform in the early 80's, and they rocked, but I was extremely disppointed with their performance this time. Maybe it's time to consider retirement!
