2012 is my year of seeing the "Legends". With the passing of Whitney, Teena Marie, etc., I've made it a point to see the 'greats' while they are still touring. I went into this concert not really knowing what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised with the way that Aretha moved through her body of work. She was in great voice, she touched all parts of her considerable range and she had great energy and stage presence. She even belted out a few tunes from the piano including a tribute to Whitney Houston. The thing I will tell anyone looking to attend an Aretha concert is to remember that she is an unashamed "church girl" (hooray!), so there will be a set dedicated to her gospel roots. If you're uncomfortable with that sort of thing, be sure to sit quietly and let others enjoy. She will certainly sing something that you'll enjoy. My wish is that she'll do some of her better known classics such as "Until You Come Back to Me", "Chain of Fools", "Say A Little Prayer", etc. However, you won't be disappointed.

Favorite moment: No single moment, but Aretha's vocal range and skill. She can still scat and ad-lib with the best of them. @
Opening act(s): Comedian Jonathan Slocumb @
