4 stars because it is the Beat. Played for about hour and 1/2. 30th year anniversary tour. Very small venue. Expected more people - they need to promote better. Did not appreciate the 3 General Public songs they did. But other than that, it was awesome to dance non-stop. Played: Whine and Grind; Stand Down Margaret; Click Click; Mirror in the Bathroom; Tears of a Clown; Can't Get used to Losing You; Jackpot; Doors of Your Heart; Save It for Later. Would have liked to have heard: Walk Away, Sole Salvation, Ackee 123, End of the Party. Ages ranged from original fans (including me) to college age.

I have seen the "English Beat" three times now, and they never fail to disappoint.
Dave Wakeling and his band were probably the best I've ever seen them. From the first song to the last, I was on my feet dancing. What a great evening!

Friday night's performance at the Coach House was quite the treat...
Fishbone brought the goods and warmed things up with their polished, we came to party, jam session stylings. A long time favorite, I have been guilty of never seeing them perform live until the other night!
Dave Wakeling and the boys (English Beat) immediately followed-up this act and kept the party at a boil, bringing numerous hits from their back catalogue of classics to life. The crowd, a middle aged mix, couldn't resist the fever and cut a rug the whole time!...
Indeed, considering it was the night before Halloween, we came to party and did so...I can only imagine how Saturday night's show was?!?!

These guys have been a party in a box for 30 years now, and they are no less fun now than they were then. Once they start playing, the crowd doesn't stop dancing until they stop. When they play Showbox, the place is always full and the crowd is always in the mood for dancing. The band just feeds off the enthusiasm of the crowd and they play to the mood of the crowd. They are one of the few bands that has as much fun on stage as the crowd does in front of it, and they show it. If you like Ska and Reggae, they are a don't miss concert.

Dave was able to transport us back to the 80s with this amazing show. Consumate performers, if you didn't dance from the second he began until the end of the show, you had to be made of ice water.

The show was great. Dave Wakeling has put together a great backup band and they have been touring enough now that they all know their roles and play them well - great saxaphonist, and 2tone Tony was fabulous. One of the founding members of the Specials, Lynval Golding joined them for the last half of the show and they did some great songs they didn't play the last time we saw them: Roughrider, Enjoy Yourself plus some of the material from General Public. It is the thirtieth anniversary of the first release of a 2tone album - happy music, great to dance to, and a good mood throughout the venue. See them if you get the chance to do so.

the opening band "get down moses" was probably the best local band i've heard in a loooong time, hope they do well. as far as the English Beat is concerned what can i say but WOW! every bit as good as i remember them. the only thing i was dissapointed in was that they did'nt perform "i confess" which is as far as i'm concerned is thier trademark song. the showbox really, and i mean really needs too put in a new sound system, the vocals and higher pitch guitar riffs sounded like rice krispies popping were dubbed in.

Dave, Dave and the rest of the band how do you do it over and over as if this was the first and best party you have ever been to. You can't stand still with the English Beat and why would you want too. These guys just really have it together and that with Dave's voice, Two Tune Tony's Jamaicin crowd mood contol, they move through the set with so much momentum. There isn't enough life to get all we need of the English Beat. Dave never stop and come back soon to Seattle. The entire crowd singing "Cant get use to losing you" in harmony was amazing

I think that the English Beat combines two aspects missing in most live acts: great music that holds up over three decades and a live performance that is a joy to experience. Dave Wakeling and the band create a wormhole to the late 70s and early 80s that sounds as fresh now as it was innovative back in the day. This is one band I would see every year. The only complaint is that the brass section was depleted, no trumpet.

English Beat put on a great performance. The only drawback was that they were scheduled to come on at 9:00, but didn't come on stage until 10:45. By that time, I was ready to go home from waiting since 6:00 to see them. Other than that, they sounded great and performed their songs like Mirror in the Bathroom and I Confess to the perfect tee. I wished they would have played another one of my old time favorite which was Sooner or Later. They did start way too late for me to where I wanted to leave. Overall, great performance.

Dave Wakeling still has it. If you liked them in the 80's you'll love them now! A small venue like the Canyon Club only enhances the experience! from twist & crawl to mirror in the bathroom, they played them all, non-stop, hit after hit. I thought I was 18 again...After the show, Dave stayed and shook hands, what a down to earth musician...I will see them every time they come to So Cal..!!!
