I'd never seen The Cult before, and I came in knowing they were a couple decades past their prime. I heard the original singer and guitarist would be the core of the band, they had three other musicians filling things out for them. The guitarist still rocks it - he's really good. The hired guns hold their own as well, particularly the drummer, who has an enviable job anyway. The weakest link was the singing; I think it was mixed low intentionally, since the singer just can't pull the load anymore. Some of the great, drawn-out wailing from the albums just doesn't happen - think of 'Rain' without the ' . . . and let it come down!' really getting nailed, or the chanted 'Revolution' at the end without the punch. Still, with that said, the sets are good, the juicy guitars keep things bouncing, and you can always try singing youself to cover those gaps. Good show.

Having seen the Cult a half dozen times over the years (going back to 1990) I can safely say they have not lost a step. Seeing them play the entire Love album was nothing short of ecstasy. A classic album where every song is strong. Billy Duffy did not miss a note and tore up such classics as Rain, She Sells Sanctuary, and The Phoenix. Ian is looking more and more like the ghost of Jim Morrison with his beard and longer hair and that is not a bad thing by any means. Of course, after the Love set the fellas brought out some more rock anthems and tore those up as well. The main riff in Love Removal Machine demands to be heard live. The National is a great venue and the Cult took full advantage of that. I hope they come back again soon and do the entire Electric album!

Great to see these guys in full form. I think they sounded better than when I saw them in the early/mid 90's. They rocked. OK, Ian might be channeling Morrison a bit, but overall, the band was tight and sounded awesome. As other reviewers have stated, if the Cult comes to your town, make the effort to see them.
My only issues are that it would have been amazing to see Peace Dogs and also nice to hear some new material. Dude's where's the new material?!?!?
In any case, it will be well worth your time to see these guys on this tour.

Show was great, Billy Duffy is incredible and just rules the place. Ian Asbury still has a great voice, just looks a little more like Jim Morrison these days. Sound was great, energy was great, definately worth going.

The Cult played the entire classic "Love" album and more hits to a mostly dead crowd at the House Of Blues in Cleveland on 11/9/09.
The sound was great, as guitarist Billy Duffy sounding as he does on the albums. The rest of the group, John Tempesta on drums, Chris Wyse on bass and Mike Dimkich on rhythm guitar backed up Billy perfectly.
The only problem is singer Ian Astbury, sings the lyrics as he sees fit, making it hard to sing along. Ian was channeling Jim Morrison with his full beard, and limited range of motion due to recent hip surgery. But his voice was as good as ever. I was suprised he didn't chastise the crowd more for their lack of enthusiasm.
It was sad to see a crowd so listless as rock legends played on tour for maybe the last time in their career.

Always wanted to see the Cult and finally got the chance. Gates opened at 7p and the show as supposed to start at 9p. Without an opening act, people got a little antsy when they were 15 minutes late getting started. Once they came out they put on a great show. Ian Astbury was looking a little like Jim Morrison with the beard and belly. Also he went into some of the lyrics of The End by the Doors. Overall the show rocked and was glad I went.

Ian, Billy and the boys came to Cleveland to rock the House and that's exactly what they did. The unmistakable guitar sound on Love was provided by Billy's Gretch White Falcon, from which he ripped the riffs with expert precision and passion.
Ian's voice was strong and clear, and he was more communicative with the audience than I had seen at previous Cult shows. Sporting the Jim Morrison beard and mustache, he cranked on the tambourine while the very capable rythm section laid down the familiar beats.
After delivering the goods and plowing through the revered Love album, they took a very short break and returned to bang some heads with favorites from Electric and Sonic Temple. That's when the guitar work of William Henry Duffy was prominently featured as his grinding, crunchy licks assaulted the senses of all in attendence. If you are a fan, don't miss this opportunity to catch them in an intimate venue like HOB.
Excellent show.

THe whole (2 part) show was well indeed great. The whole LOVE lp/cd played in its entirety, a brief "halftime" and then right back to the great tunes that they are known for...
Just cause they re older didnt effect their trademark sound a bit- actually better with age- like great bottle of wine.
6-8 shirts, hoodies, mini 'graphed art prints, keychains, at the merch table...
shirts looked thin (and 100 combed cotton) we'll see after it gets washed...
a 9 out of 10.... great venue too...

I've been to many concerts including U2, REM, Genesis, etc. etc. This was by far the best show I have ever seen. I've been a fan since Death Cult and they were flawless last night. Billy Duffy is amazing as usual and Ian is a master of the crowd. The new additions on Drums, Bass and Second Guitar were phenominal. I really wasn't sure how Love would translate to modern day but they made it seem like the songs were created this year. The crowd was about 1,000 but it was perfect to get close to the band and enjoy an amazing show. They did some of their newer stuff which got the crowd rockin. MUST SEE CONCERT. I just wish others knew how amzing this band really is and it really is one of the best rock shows you will see.
