I knew we were in for a treat when I saw one mike and a stool on stage when we first sat down.
No warm up act we didn't need, she started a 8:05, basically on time, looked great and sounded fantastic-better than a few years again at an outdoor concert in Atlanta.
Her voice is so wonderful and her choice of songs was just great. My girlfriend, who was not a big fan, went with me, and she's now converted to a fan. Will go again for sure...Maybe when she's with Mary Ch.Carpenter...

Amazingly UNFORGETABLE voice! Outstanding guitarist! The only thing that could possibly have made this concert better would have been another hour of her music! Come back soon!

Fantastic performance from beginning to end with a great selection of songs - her own and covers, old and new. Wonderful rapport with audience. Most performances are now bands so it was amazing to see one person with an acoustic guitar seize and hold the stage.

Shawn Colvin is not for everyone. As she will readily admit her songs are thought provoking, deep and often sad but they are also absolutely wonderful. Shawn inspires awe with her honest, open renditions and amazing guitar work. I highly recommend this show to anyone who wants to experience real emotion and feeling.

FIrst of all, I do have to say that Shawn Colvin's voice is still as powerful and beautiful as I remember it from 20 years ago. That said, I would have been better off spending the evening with her old cd's and a nice bottle of wine. The show was just Shawn and a guitar and really slow and sad. The few songs she played that I wanted to hear were not satisfying. All "in minor key" as she kept saying. Just sad and depressing! I like her better with a band I guess.

Great acoustic show with a nice mix of songs over the years. Shawn can carry the show with her vocals, humor and guitar. The theatre was small and comfortable. Will see her and Mary Chapin in Charlotte in February.

First time seeing her in concert and she was GREAT!! Beautiful voice and great variety of guitar picking/strumming. She also had some excellent (and funny) stories leading up to some songs as well as somber moments. Very few artists can do a great show alone with one guitar but she did it handily. We're even thinking of seeing her again on 2/23 in Greensboro when she plays with Mary Chapin Carpenter, another wonderful artist who we saw a few months ago in Raleigh.

As always, Shawn showed her amazing songwriting talent while she mesmerized with her effortless guitar mastery in every tuning known to man. Her ability to tell story in her songs and with her voice is what captivates and keeps you begging for more.

If you like Sunny Came Home... then you really should hear Shawn Colvin live! She is a tried and tested Genuine talent who puts on a great show that covers her body of work and is quite enjoyable throughout.

One cannot pick a better place to attend a music performance than the Birchmere. Still, i have to say that I don't think any other performer connects with the Birchmere audience than Shawn Colvin. She made the Birchmere come alive on Friday night with a mix of her intelligence, raw writing and singing talent and humor. Highly recommend.

I've been blessed to see Shawn Colvin live about a dozen times and she remains a soulful performer who always manages to give an incredible performance. This time was no different! With Stewart Smith on hand to play alongiside her, Colvin gave a tremendous show that tracked her most recent effort--ALL FALL DOWN--while incorporating classics from her earlier efforts. Thankfully, this show focused more on her music. Sometimes Colvin has a tendency to ramble between songs; this show featured a wise choice to minimize her train of thought so she could focus on delivering the music. Colvin still seems to endlessly devote time to tuning her guitar,but you still hang in there with her because the delivery of her songs is always pitch perfect. Only thing truly missing from the DC show was a guest spot from Mary Chapin Carpenter--Colvin's musical sister--who is out on tour. When they appear together. it's truly a trip ot musical heaven. However, even without Carpenter on hand, Colvin on her own is nothing short of paradise!

This is the 4th or 5th time I've seen Shawn Colvin. She's always delightful. The addition of Stuart ?Shaw? in the 2nd half of the set was great--complemented her style and added depth to the music

a little boring...left early....too mellow....she kept stating that she wants to play new songs....pretty voice but I went to see her old music because I am old...i don't follow her new stuff...I don't own a cd player..whatever...she was ok and can and play guitar better than I so I give her points for that..

I've seen Shawn twice before. The last few times she was just solo acoustic. I thought that she was much better the last time I saw her. Although she was very warm and funny, the set was somewhat lackluster, which was surprising since she kept telling the audience how much she loves performing at the Somerville Theatre.

I first saw her in concert in the mid-90s, at the Zoo in Denver. That time, she was with her band. Most recently, I saw her on the "Three Girls and their Buddy" tour with Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller. But this solo show at the Somerville Theater was my favorite yet. Just Shawn and her guitar. And fans so true and appreciative that she granted their wishes for songs from the past. It didn't matter that she never got around to playing 'Shotgun...' or 'Sunny...' --- she was at her best, in great voice and at one with her instrument. She seemed to appreciate us as much as we appreciated her. If you have a chance to see her, GO...

Shawn Colvin has an amazing voice that I could never get tired of listening too. Her version of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy was fantastic. Loads of new stuff from the new Album, loved All Fall Down and oldies that stood out were Polaroids and Tennessee. Great show.
