Natalie crooned much like her father, Nat King Cole. The night was filled with Unforgettable songs plus a touch of her R&B/pop classics. When she sang, Let There Be Love, she and the trumpet player echoed each at the end. Her scatting and the trumpet player's riffs really made this song special. Other highlights included Unforgettable, Smile, Mr. Melody and This Will Be.

Up close and personal with Natalie Cole was a night to remember. So nice to see her
alive and well and enjoying the evening as much as we did. She was a bit thin but hopefully she will be able to gain as she continues to get stronger and healthier after her transplant. It was a very romantic night and one to remember. The symphony was spot on and the accoustics were so nice at the Sandler Center.

We thoroughly enjoyed Natalie Cole and the VA Sympony was excellent. We are big fans of Natalie and it was great to see and hear her in person. Her voice is amazing! This was our first time to the Sandler Center and we really liked it. We will definately return to see other shows at this venue

The combination of the VSO with Natalie was the most exciting show I've seen in years! And, the Sandler Center was a wonderful showplace for the performance. VSO began with "West Side Story" collection then switched to Gershwin's "American in Paris". The mood was set and the audience was hers even before she took the stage. Natalie's performance was amazing, captivating, upbeat and nostalgic. Her rendition of "Smile" was worth three hankies and "This Will Be" was so powerful. I want to see it again!
P.S.
All this, and it benefitted a great charity!

Natalie looked fabulous and I'm sure her voice was in top form, if heard. You could not hear Natalie during songs she sang in the beginning of the show. She has such a sweet, soft voice that either the band needed to back off quite a bit or her microphone/sound sound system required quite a bit of adjusting. She spoke and we in the balcony left center could not hear what she was saying or singing. However, during the latter part of the show she sang ballads, and you were able to hear her lovely voice. She did a wonderful job scatting with the VSO trumpeteer and for me that only saved the show.
As for the stagehands, one was walking across the stage and two others had to set aright the backdrop that almost hit the heads of the VSO players sitting on the last row. This occurred prior to the singing of "Unforgettable". There was no injury that I could tell, but it was close.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed the concert. My only criticism concerns a mismatch in sound volume between the Virginia Symphony and Ms. Cole. At the beginning of the concert, we could barely hear her singing, despite sitting in the center of the orchestra section. Later in the concert this was rectified, but lapsed back at the end.

The VSO selections from American in Paris were wonderfully done and set the tone for a delightful evening. Natalie Cole was terrific. Her voice was strong and clear. Unfortuantely in some numbers, the base from her own musicians greatly overshadowed her beautiful voice making it difficult to hear her singing. She is a top class performer and very personable.

Natalie & the Virginia Symphony made for an evening that I would be interested in experiencing all over again. Her mixture of music genres was right on time. If I could have gotten my wife to quite singing along with the familiar tunes the overall rating would have been 5 stars.

The Salem Civic Center was a horrible place to put such a talented singer. The acoustics were horrible and the seats are so cramped you cannot move. Very disappointed.
Natalie, on the other hand, was beautiful, as she always is. She was touching in her personal comments about friends, family and her health over the past several years. Her voice is still there.

I thought the show was OK. I was anticipating her singing more of her songs and not the 40-60 songs. The two songs she sang with her dad was good. When she walked off the stage, the people I was sitting next to and myself were confussed. We weren't sure if she was done, if she was coming back out to introduce her band. Alot of people just sat still, not sure what to do...

well overall the concert was one of the best that i have heard. but there was a part in the concert that she went offstage and it was for about a full 7 mintues, that after awhile, her band didn't know what was going on. and then she came back onstage, did one more song and then left the stage again and then never came back on. she didn't thank us, or we didn't have any indication that this was the end of the concert. don't get me wrong she was on for over an hour or so and she sounded great. but it felt like we were shorted a little bit.

Her voice and stage presence is awesome and well worth the effort to attend. This is my first time at the Keswick, which is a delightfully intimate venue for this type of concert.
There were a couple of negatives: the concert started about 40 minutes late. This was probably due to late arrival of the star, but was never explained to the audience. Instead, there was an opening act that looked very improvised, and some obvious stalling by the audience before the show began. This gave a bit of a disjointed aura to the show overall.
It wasn't necessary. Ms. Cole and her team need to trust her audience, which is extremely supportive of her. And again, her music -- even as she recovers from major surgery -- is awesome.

Terrific show. Natalie really puts on a great performance. Her 20 piece band is spectacular. Good selection of songs from her career. The back-up singer was excellent and could have been given one solo.
Cole looks great, especially after all the medical and other problems she has had to overcome.
I would have enjoyed a longer show, it was pretty short (about 70 minutes) with only one staged encore.
Her voice is strong and clear as ever.
