Chuck Berry is still ornery, and "brings it" on stage, though it took a few songs to get into the groove with his band on Sat. night (9/12/09) at BB King's in NYC.
A photographer, backstage, distracted the King of Rock 'n Roll, and Chuck's ire towards the offender probably fired him up and helped kick-start the show. Also, once the pianist proved his mettle, Chuck seemed to relax and strut his stuff, while the entire backing band (piano, bass, drums), finally managed to play in the right key which was not the case early in the set.
Chuck no longer duck-walks, but he shakes his thang, plays his licks, and was engaging and humorous. "Carol," "Nadine," and "Johnny B. Goode" were particluar highlights, and he nailed 'em.
