I bought the tickets to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo, did not know who Johnny
Clegg was....what a fantastic surprise! Lady smith was every bit as great as I knew they would be... but Johnny Clegg blew me away. I loved his story telling prior to playing a song, and his stage presence is phenomenal. Brilliantly written songs and a tight tight band that seems to be one entity. Clegg has a great voice and his Zulu dancing is so damn cool, too!

This concert was performed from the Heart ~ Such love of Humanity and South Africa. The concert was an absolute standout for me. I wish that Johnny Clegg had had more time to give the backround of his songs ~ I learned so much. A big thank you to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Johnny Clegg and his amazing band.

I went to the show to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Period. They played about an hour and 15 minutes, and then Johnny Clegg took the rest of the night. LBM was BREATHING TAKING! A flawless show. Truly inspiring.

I can understand the significance of Clegg and his band to South Africa, but I honestly wasn't crazy about his music and thought it was a really strange sonic mix with LBM. The moods of the set were so entirely different. Now granted, I'm sure there will be a Clegg fan that will argue Ladysmith was out of place, but I really felt the two needed their own separate shows.

have seen J Clegg many times over last 15 years. Not only was he as good as he was in early years, my first timer friend said it was one of the best concerts she has ever seen! that tight and music that good.

Johnny Clegg is one of The Great Performers and activist/musicians of our times. He has been with his guitar player and (musical director) as well as his lead Female singer for over 20 years. His super energetic stage presence is second to none. He is a veteran who knows how to put on a 'Live Show'. He took us through a tour of ihis previous bands Jaluka and Suvuka and on to the present day CD 'Human". Dela, One Man One Vote, Wild Crazy Beautiful World are rock classics.

His website recently posted, "On Freedom day , the 27th of April 2012, Johnny Clegg received the presidential IKHAMANGA award as part of the National Orders ceremony. The National Orders are the highest honour a citizen can receive for his/her contribution to South Africa."......"Awarded for his excellent contribution to and achievement in the field of bridging African traditional music with other music forms, promoting racial understanding among racially divided groups in South Africa under difficult apartheid conditions, working for a non-racial society and being an outstanding spokesperson for the release of political prisoners."

Clegg is an admirable man, a classic songwriter , with his subjects carrying the importance of life and freedom. If you have never seen him or even never heard of him, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket to one o his concerts, you won't be sitting long

I loved this concert! The enthusiasm and energy of both bands was wonderful, and it was great hearing the background stories behind the songs. We got to the zoo about 15 minutes after the concert gates opened, and had no trouble getting a great spot on the lawn that was shaded by the time the concert started.

It was an amazing show. The energy he has on stage is boundless, but with ladysmith black mambazo playing over an hour and the curfew at the zoo, Johnny Clegg only played for an hour and a half. I wish he could have played longer.

Enjoyed the show overall. Ladysmith Black Mambazo was a bit slow, their style is quite repetitive.Johnny Clegg Band was really great, only issue is he felt rushed to finish by 10pm curfew.

Enjoyed hearing the wonderful harmonies of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, they were just great. Johnny Clegg was also great, very tight sounding band and lots of energy. Zoo venue was very good, the crowd was well managed and kept happy.

Wonderful show! Outside concerts at the zoo are great! The longer Ladysmith sang the more the crowd got into their fabulous harmony's, movement and rhythm. The length of their show and the encores did present a problem when Johnny Clegg's time was cut short due to the 10pm mandatory stop time at the zoo. The reset time was too long as well. Minor issues for a great night of African music from two of the Masters!!

My love affair with Johnny Clegg and his music has continued unabated since the first time I heard him in the early '80s, when he opened for Tracy Chapman at the OKC Zoo Amphitheatre. His compositions are varied and musically interesting, from complex chord structure and harmonies to a variety of instrumentation. His lyrics are anything but trivial - each song has meaning for Johnny, and in his concerts, he tells the stories behind the lyrics. His music makes me laugh and cry, dance and contemplate. The African harmonies speak to my soul. His concerts are not to be missed!

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is also wonderful, with rich harmonies, and a long-standing tradition of sharing Zulu music with the world. Those guys have a great time performing and dancing, and their joy is contagious.

Best concert I've seen in years. Ladysmith Black Mambazo were super entertaining and beautiful to listen to. The the Johnny Clegg Band brought the house down. Both performed in huge heat, starting at 99 degrees at the beginning of the concert, and still they brought the house down. Exceptional.

Fantastic show in a unique venue--The Howard Theater in NW Washington DC. The dinner-seating arrangement tended to subdue the mostly over-40 (maybe even over-50)crowd. By the time they played "I Call Your Name" the really energetic folks were in the aisles dancing. Johnny is a great story teller and explained the origins for many of the songs. He played a healthy smattering of songs from his latest album--Human--which I had just purchased on iTunes for $10. I think the album is worth the investment. I hope Johnny Clegg comes back to North America for another tour as I will certainly pay to see him again.

Just like fine wine, the man gets better with time. It had been almost 20 years since the last time I saw him perform. He hasn't lost a note! And he still moves like a twenty year old!! And what a mind he has. An amazing performer. If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of his concerts, do yourself a huge favor and go!

The Johnny Clegg show at the Howard Theatre was energetic, inspiring and good value for money. I like the venue and throughly enjoyed the performance. Although the seats downstairs appear closer, one has to turn your neck sideways as the tables do not face the stage. I would recommend balcony seats for ergonomic reasons. Please bring Johnny and his band back soon and often!!!!! I wish there was more Zulu dancing
