My husband & I absolutely loved their 2011 Christmas at The Ryman show and were expecting the same beautiful & heartfelt show. Instead we got a show that appeared unrehearsed, Vine Gill talking about guitar porn & the fiscal cliff, Vince Gill talking about drinking at Tootsies, special guest appearances by other singer/songwriters, Amy Grant being dressed for a cocktail party and lack of sentimental Christmas songs. We had front row balcony seats and spent close to $180 for a subpar performance and the same set design as the previous year.
Amy Grant was dressed all in black with no outfit changes where last year she was festive and even had a cute red dress with white fluffy cuffs. They didn't have many duets and Amy Grant was quite long telling stories...we wanted to hear more Christmas songs. The show definitely seemed unrehearsed and the overall vibe was they couldn't wait to get off the stage and go home.
I love these two performers and without knowing a thing about their personal lives it appears they bit off more than they can chew. Quite possibly they stretched themselves too thin with performances in the fall/winter. We can appreciate special guest singers but if that's the direction they're taking the show than they should add "and friends" to their title.
We will not be attending their 2013 show.
