Although I have to complement Mr. Lightfoot for his stage presence, the overall truth is that he should retire. The Voice that gave him his distinctive sound is GONE !!
I drove an hour and 20 mins to get to this concert and now consider it a waste of Gas.
I sat through the first half of the concert hoping, with each song, that possibly as the night went on, that maybe His voice would deepen with use. If anything it got softer and higher. I admit the man still has his skill with the Guitar. The main problem I had was every song sounded like it was being sung by my Grandfather and not by the Great Gordon Lightfoot.
If I thought I could get my money back I would ask for it. The saddest part is I love his music, and now I will have to try and forget how badly he sounded last night. At the intermission I had to leave. I would have left earlier but I was in the center of a row and the seats are so tightly packed together in the Mahaffey Theater that it would have been grossly unfair to the other concert goers either to my left or right if I had gotten up and tried to leave. So I sat through the entire first half hoping and praying for an intermission.
I will miss Mr Lightfoots voice, but I must say I will never go to the Mahaffey Theater ever again. Its seating is as bad if not worse than the Sardine can they call the Ruth Eckert Hall which on a scale of 1 to 10 is a negative 10.
I went to see the Moody Blues (the three remaining original members +) Thursday night, and they were outstanding. They still had their original sound and carried off a memorable concert. i give them two thumbs up. I am sad to say I would not recommend Gordon Lightfoot's concert to anyone, except my worst Enemy.
Two thumbs down.
