Solange is seriously underrated. After the announcement of the tour, I quickly purchased tickets to the event and the price, which was $22.00, was just too good to be true. Janelle Monae opened the show with a small introduction of the opening act. Roman GianArthur performed first, by serenading the audience with a couple of his songs. He was simply amazing and let's just say that I am a fan!
Solange performed right after Roman, by opening her set with "Some Things Never Seem To F***ing Work", which riled the crowd. She performed all 7 songs from her True EP including her hit "Tony" from Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams and "Crush" from her debut album, Solo Star. She encouraged crowd participation and repeatedly asked the guy controlling the lights to turn them on so that she could see everyone in the audience. She showed off her dancing skills and even brought everyone from behind the stage, including Roman GianArthur and Janelle Monae to participate in a dance off.
The show was a huge disco party full of laughter and just plain good music. Let's just say that the show was well worth $20.00. I'd love to see her again and I encourage anyone who's following the Indie Movement to catch this show.
