This was one of San Diego Opera's best presentations. I was thoroughly pleased with the staging, costumes and of course the talent on stage. Bravo, very well done. After seeing the horrible Julius Caesar in Eygpt and the qually badly produced Carmen, I thought I would not attend another opera, I'm happy to say I made the right decision to see Aida,

Let me start with Latonia Moore. She is a powerhouse! She stole my breath more than a few times. Jill Grove was incredible as well. Daniele Callegari's conducting was on point and the Orchestra accentuated the emotion of each act. Acts I and II had lots of dancing and was very colorful. Mark S. Doss was most powerful as Amonasro. Acts III and IV were dark and at times ominous. Aida is a must see.

My first opera, and it was great. The actors, the singers were all amazing. The English surtitles helped in understanding the story line better, but the emotion of the characters would have been enough for the meaning to come through.

A real slave in any era can also be a slave to passion. It is the passion that drives drama and art and music and love. But to release all bonds holding passion is to lose control. The human dilemma is to hold unrestricted passion in check until it can be consummated with one's true love. Unless in one's life there has been or is this all-consuming and compulsive passion no words, music or drama will explain its meaning or its ultimate desire.

We were able to enjoy this performance having seats centrally located on the main floor. The performers were exceptionally good. The combination of sub titles and the music was very helpful to follow the story line and still pay close attention to the music's own meaning. The performer who sang Aida's arias was exceptional.
One thing that would count on a Opera to do is evoke many feelings and emotions. Aida did this. The contradictory and conflicting emotions were evident throughout the arias. Of course, the March was an show stopper all its own. The two of us who participated in this opera both gave it a 5 star rating. It was exceptional.

Lisa Daltirus Aida and her father Amonasro Kevin Short had excellent voices. The chorus was also excellent. The dancers average.
AIDA requires very large sets, possible more "special effects" would have helped.

We are not regular opera goers, but this was a special event for my wife's birthday. It was a wonderfult experience. It truly brought out the voice being a truly amazing instrument. In fact, it was "grand opera" in its most wonderful tradition.

An exceptional performance by a very competent opera company. The performers, particularly Aida, Amneris and Radames were wonderful. An opera to keep one coming back to Arizona Opera.

The standard for opera is: "perfection - no mistakes". This production achieved this and more by wonderful acting in addition to the fine voices of all the performers. The scenery and accompanying pomp was wonderful and fitted this stage perfectly. Why, even the camel and the greyhounds performed on cue and with no "mistakes"!

The singing was great. The singers worked very hard. The same sets for 3/4 of the opera. The opera was very boring. Way to long. Same thing over and over again. Wish I had known how bad it was before we went. What a waste of money.

The Actress playing Aida had the best operatic voice Ive ever heard. Arizona Opera was lucky to showcase this fabulous talent and I feel privilaged to have heard her sing.
