First, unlike most shows, the opener (Meiko) was amazing. Beautiful voice, funny stories between songs. Really charismatic. And then Jewel! Everything she sang was so beautiful. And not just a repeat of her albums. The vocals were reworked (or maybe free form, who knows) and so so beautiful. And she really talked to the audience. Sharing details of her life and the inspiration for her songs. With just her on stage with her guitar and the audience space darkened it was like spending time with a really talented friend. Truly a wonderful experience.

Yet again Jewel, continues to entertain loyal fans such as myself. She has been doing this for 13 years and her talent seems ageless. We love her interaction with the audience. Her stories about her life experiences in between songs are a nice touch that enables the audience to get to learn more about her while also understanding the songs she writes. We were 4 rows back right in the middle, Villa Montalvo is a great place to listen to live music. I look forward to her next visit to the Bay Area.

This was my first time seeing Jewel live, although I have been a fan for about 9 years. She did a wonderful job of making everyone in attendance feel like a family. Her velvet voice just seems to effortlessly slip out. The "unplugged singer/songwriter" style was a perfect match for her sweet personality and tender stories from her life. Usually I don't prefer it when artists get on stage and talk a lot, but she did a beautiful job of blending the songs and stories. It made the night special. The set list (which apparently doesn't exist) was a wonderful collection of the old and new. She even asked the crowd for suggestions on what we would like to hear. Despite some overly-excited and slightly inebriated fans who shouted out selections repeatedly and obnoxiously, Jewel politely and humorously quieted the crowd and obliged a number of the requests. Hats off to a very classy and terribly talented artist and lady.
