Gomez gave their all and wowed me with their first song, "How We Operate" - the song the audience could hear everything for. They sang their hearts out and the music was great. The only downfall was that the vocals cut in and out. I felt sorry for the band at certain points when they were trying to interact with the crowd and we couldn't hear them. :(
Love Gomez - the venue was fun, but the sound wasn't great.

To be honest, I wasn't quite sure how Gomez would perform live as I have never seen nor heard of anyone talking about their live performances. I also had not been to the San Diego House of Blues and have had varying experiences depending upon what city I was in.
Blind Pilot was one of the best opening acts I've yet to see at the hundreds of concerts I have been to in my life. A very unique band with a xylaphone, stand up bass and trumpeteer. The singers voices was pure and passionate, while the female backup singer strummed along on the banjo. The lyrics and music were great. I tried to explain them to someone the other day and I believe I labeled them as Portland Folk Rock with a twist of Bluegrass. Go see this band if you have a chance. They are great.
Gomez, by contrast, rocked the house with poppy, catchy guitar laden songs from both new and old albums. A very talented band with three people who can sing very well - and do it live. I always judge a band by whether or not they are worse, the same or better than their produced music. Gomez was far better live than produced (although I'm a big fan of all their albums). A few creative song explorations using technology (who would think that an iTouch can make music) really kept the night interesting. These guys rocked and put on a great show.

Watching Gomez from the edge of the stage, which was very easy to get to at the not even half capacity Beaumont Club, was very entertaining. The musicianship of the band was amazing. Every member of the band played multiple instruments, changing from one to another nearly every song. I don't believe I've ever seen a band with so many multi-talented musicians in it. I'd definitely recommend seeing these guys. But beware, you need to know the music from their newest albums, they didn't play as much from the older albums (the ones I own and are familiar with) as I had wanted.

I can't urge you enough to go check out Blind Pilot and Gomez while they are on tour. I had heard Blind Pilot's album, but had never seen them live, and they were amazing. The band moves like a single organism. The harmonies will make you cry, they are so beautiful. And what unusal instruments they used to produce their very unique sound!
I had seen Gomez before, but this time they were playing better than ever. They also used some pretty ususual instruments - including two ipod applications, as the ipods were held up to the mics. Very interesting. These boys from Southport know how to put on a good show!

Gomez offered up one of the tightest, well oiled shows I have seen in recent memory. It felt as though we were on the verge of witnessing a great band achieve greatness. The hall was small and the crowd who were listening heard got to see a great show over the constant chatter of "dates". Hey PDX, leave your talky girlfriends at home - the audience was listening.
PDX topped a 103 that day and Gomez added to the heat with a fantastic show. My only wish - that they offered digital downloads of the show.
I'm sure the next time I get to see them it will cost twice as much with four times the number in attendance.

What a show! It was so great to see Gomez live and experience how versatile they are with their instruments - and also their voices. It's not hard to fall in love with Ben's voice, of course. It's hard to believe that tickets were only $20 - I would have paid triple. Gomez puts on a great show and I can't wait to see them again.

It was weird seeing Gomez with the Mother Hips. The Mother Hips are a great american rock'n'roll band. Gomez seemed like pretenders. They had a song on a hit tv show and I suppose that makes you draw a crowd. Gomez's performance was very uninspiring.

Considering it was 105 degrees outside and 90 degrees in the theater, I thought the guys in Gomez did an outstanding job of rocking hard, despite being dripping wet!!! Their musicianship is truly amazing and fun to watch and they sounded better in concert than they do on their new album! I thought they were great sports and we all had a fun time!

I LOVE GOMEZ and will go out of my way to see them again, But I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THE WONDER BALLROOM AGAIN! It started from the first point of contact with the staff , our tickets printed light and the crack staff at this joint made no attempt to verify the validity of the tickets and turned us away. We are good Portlanders and road our bikes to the show ,after an hour of riding around to find some place to reprint our tickets on the hottest day in the history of Portland we finally got in as Gomez took the stage . We were excited as we entered to" HOW WE OPERATE" the opening song, however something was off , the SOUND completely and utterly blows. This was disapointing but not suprising as the other ballroom in town the Crystal is also designed by 3 year old with a hearing problem. The crowd was made up of subarban zombies talking or on their cell phones through out the show. So I thought maybe alcohol might help the situation only to be disappointed again with douche bag bartenders and weak over priced drinks, that 50% of the time they couldn't get right because the horrible sound was so loud and their lousy attitude. As we were getting on our bike to leave we heard many people saying the same thing "The sound really sucks in there"

As expected, the Hips were awesome, I've seen them many times before and seek them out whenever they come to town. Too bad they didn't headline, they just get into a groove after about an hour, and the crowd was way into it. I wasn't very impressed with Gomez, they sounded like 15 other bands on the radio. Go Mother Hips!

I've seen Gomez live once before -- two years ago in another intimate setting -- and was blown away by how they interact with the crowd and put on such a professional and fun show without it having to be showy or gimicky. This time I didn't get my hopes up, as the last time could have been ranked in my top 5 all-time favorite shows of popular music. But last night their music was incredible. The venue may not be the most comfortable, but I would give up comfort for the intimacy provided. Not a bad seat in the house. And again, most importantly, Gomez rocked the house!

Loved it! It's so nice to see a band that has 3 singers... makes it that much more interesting. Even the best voice over and over on every song can get tiresome. These guys have such a good groove going. They're all highly skilled and play multiple instruments. I was very impressed. My only complaint is that they didn't play 2 of my favs and their biggest songs... "How We Operate" and 'Haven't Turned Around' (I forget the exact name of the song). Touring bands have somewhat of an obligation to play to their audience and we're there to hear the songs we love in addition to the new stuff and the stuff they feel like doing.

How is it that these guys are in a small venue like the Showbox in Seattle? It's great for us, but the music business is a weird place when Gomez isn't pulling the crowds like Death Cab or Coldplay. Maybe it's just me but the virtuosity, musicianship, energy, variety, and the great tunes these guys lay down are without parallel in the current scene. Gomez is better live than recorded. I'm not sure how they manage this, but it makes them an act not to miss. They sound tight, in tune and they often embellish their studio tracks, making them even better. Where's a current live album guys?

This was my first time seeing Gomez live. I am not widely familiar with their stuff but I really enjoy the songs played on KMTT and the two cd's I have. I felt the first half of their set was energizing and fun but then they got into some techy kind of music (using a cell phone (?), the computer, synths) and it turned me off. Their jams bored me. They are obviously a very talented group of musicians but I would have preferred to witness the depth of their musical talent, not the breadth of instruments they can play. In the last few songs, however, they came back strong and got the crowd hopping again. I'm glad to have seen them live, but I'm not entirely sure if I would see them again.
