Progressive Rock genius, Ian Anderson, put on a stellar performance of Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" and its sequel at the Fox Theater in Detroit on Sat., Nov.3. Though his voice is not a forceful and clear as it once was, the band he assembled played the legendary "song" with perfection and Ian took his customary stances to play the flute like no other. On stage with the band was an actor playing the part of a mature Gerald Bostock lending his voice to those sections no longer attainable by Anderson himself. And it worked! A sold out crowd was satiated by the performance which included bits of humor and video. In one segment, Anderson includes a brief skit, including audience members, to bring awareness to prostate cancer and the need for an annual physical by the men in the crowd. It was good to hear this classic again and the sequel was a fitting addition to this progressive rock classic.
