I have been a fan of Bill Cosby since I was a young child. My family would sit around and listen to his comedy records (LP - 33 &1/3 remember them?) and laugh ourselves silly. But I've never seen him live. When I saw he was coming to the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, I knew I had to go since it is very close for me. Both my parents have passed in the last few years and the show was on Mother's Day so I thought it was a fitting way to pay tribute to my Mom.
The show started about 10 minutes late, an intro played video clips from his old TV shows which were hysterical. By the time he came out on stage, it was around 7:15 or so. He began by talking about how it was Mother's Day, then went on to relate the story of Adam & Eve to Mother's Day, etc. in his usual inimitable way. Every story he told had the audience in stitches. We laughed and laughed and laughed.
He spoke about 1 hour and then said, "Thank you, good night!" The whole audience was flabbergasted. We thought he would come out for an encore but no. The lights came on and that was it.
The good news: He is as funny & sharp as ever.
The bad news: $75 for only a mediocre seat and a 1 hour show does not seem justified. Too much money for the amount/duration of entertainment.
If he had played 2 hours or more, then I'd say it was worth it and given it at least a 4 star rating!!!
