My Mancunian wife was pretty excited about her favorite team playing in the DC area and couldn't wait to buy tickets. I've dragged her to enough Penguins games to realize I couldn't get out of this one.
We had pretty good seats in the stadium, lower level although close to a corner, and the first ten minutes looked like it was going to be worth the trek and the high ticket price. However, Manchester City got a couple of bad calls from the referee and then seemed to fold. Once down to ten men they never got their act together and their lone striker was frequently seen hanging out near Inter Milan's goal without another teammate in sight. Of course, even the coach couldn't make the game, but we thought Brian Kidd as Assistant Coach would do a better job.
Still, the food was better than expected; the soccer (sorry honey ... football) fans created a great atmosphere even in a half-empty stadium; it was a beautiful night, and we even had the questionable pleasure of watching someone get arrested after attempting to get into a fight with a fellow fan - just like being in England. So all in all I guess we were glad we went, but next time (will there be a next time?) hopefully both teams will show up.
