I am 24 years old and took my girlfriend (same age) to see this since she is a big Disney fan. Both of us were very disappointed. We were excited to see this after seeing the Beauty and the Beast Broadway show. The Aladdin show doesn't even begin to compare. The show lasted about an hour and a half, including about a 15-20 minute intermission. The play seemed extremely low budget. The set didn't change at all throughout the entire thing, unless you count a small cardboard prop that was wheeled to the center of a stage with a little bit of dungeon scenery on one side (gray wall) and cave scene on the other (brown wall). A little bit of scaffolding was on the stage and remained there the entire time (this was used to illustrate every other scene and even remained in the background during the dungeon and cave scenes). The costumes were below average and there were 6 or 7 actors playing every character (15 or so). There was no Abu (Aladdin's monkey) or Rajah (Jasmin's tiger) or Lago (Jafar's parrot) or even any attempt at a magic carpet.
The end was very dull. There was no fight scene and it was effortless to defeat the bad guy. The genie didn't even show up until the last 20 minutes or so of the show. He was the best character and actually had a couple funny lines. There was a chase scene at the beginning (in which the characters ran through the audience) that was amusing for a short while.
All of the young children in the audience were bored out of their minds. After the show, one young child said something to the effect of, "This is like a movie with real people except movies are actually good." Most parents played on their phones or kept entertaining their children to stop them from being too terribly bored.
There was no music at all. None of the actors sang and they didn't play any prerecorded music either.
My girlfriend did the lights and sound for plays in high school and said that they were much better quality there than this show.
I'm disappointed that Meadow Brook would host something like this. Not only did tickets cost a bit over $20 each, but then we had to pay $10 to park and $5 each for something to drink.
I would not recommend this for any age group.
