I am overjoyed to be able to write a bit of commentary about POP NYE 12/13!
The night was unforgettable. This was my first time at the Oracle Arena and I was totally blown away!
THE GOOD:
The sound system was amazing, the light show presentations were some of the best I've seen. Security getting in was quick and efficient. The dance floor was properly controlled and never got too crowded so there was always plenty of room to dance. The fact that they legally allowed light-show devices (i.e. gloves, poi, orbitals, etc) was amazing so no one had to sneak them in and we could all enjoy light shows all night! That alone allowed the vibe to naturally escalate to what it did.
Absolutely loved the "Dash Berlin" light up sticks that somehow permeated the entire crowd.
The crowd was excellent. Very positive vibes - unified and smiles all around =)
Betsie Larkin was just okay, in my opinion, but I appreciated her nonetheless. I thought W&W should have closed since they're such a powerful and energetic set but what can ya do hahaha. I LOVE that there was only one stage - it made it much less complicated than when you're shuffling around at a rave between 6+ tents.
The water station system they had was great! I only wish the water bottles had caps so we could remain on the dance floor a bit longer =)
The age span here was anything from younger crowds to older crowds. I saw some older folk (>40) gettin their groove on and, of course, that always makes you smile. I really appreciated how well everyone was able to "do their own thing" but still be a part of this huge experience! So many individuals coming together to be a part of something bigger than any one of us.
BEST THING ABOUT THE EVENT: Other than all the talented DJs, I LOVED the countdown special. The positive and uplifting message in the countdown touched all of our hearts. I feel truly blessed to have taken part in that experience and that beautiful moment.
THE BAD:
The water bottles that you bought weren't allowed to be given with the cap so your water would spill all over the place while dancing and you'd have to leave the event to get water quite frequently which was annoying.
Parking for $35? Are you serious? Way too much money for parking. $20 maximum. Just cause you CAN charge that much doesn't mean you should.
