My husband and I are avid Queen fans...knowing the most popular to the most obscure songs by heart. We are also skeptical of any tribute bands and cringe when American Idol has Queen week. We realize that Freddie is one of the most talented vocalists of all time and know that it is very difficult to pull off his energy and prowess on the stage.
With that being said, we drove from Atlanta to Dallas to see this show. Having seen Marc Martel perform "Somebody to Love" made us want to see more. We were not disappointed.
Due to the different vocal styles that Freddie used in their diverse songs, it was understandable how the band needed 4 different singers to perform the show. While my husband is not a fan of having a female singer in the band, Jennifer Espinoza brought me to tears with "Who Wants to Live Forever." We loved Jeff Scott Soto's energy and hard rock presence on the stage, especially when he performed Dragon Attack. The weaker of the singers was Yvan Pedneault, but he still did a decent job.
Marc Martel was amazing. We loved when he sang "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon" and "The Show Must Go On", which was my absolute favorite. The song was never performed live by Queen and it was amazing to see it on stage by someone who can sing it like Freddie.
The guitarists played Brian May's style flawlessly and the drummer was fantastic, even singing "I'm in love with my car;" a tribute to Roger Taylor.
So many songs are crowd interactive, which makes the atmosphere electric. You really feel the music, and the power, and the meaning behind the music at this show. I truly wish they were touring longer and to more cities. I would love to see this concert again. It, of course, made me wish we could see Queen (with Freddie Mercury) in person, but being that will never happen, this is the next best thing.
