A good night of rock & pop from bands of the '90's. They played all the familiars, but also brought out some of their new material. Marcy Playground opened with a tight set of great music. Woz, Dylan & company, it looked like you guys were havin' fun. Next was Lit. Those guys did Allen proud. High five to all in the band for a severe rock out. And your new material is fantastic. Of course, since I can relate to the finely crafted and lyrical song " My Own Worst Enemy ", it was a highlight of their set for me. Next up, Gin Blossoms. They proved why they dominated air play in the 90's. A bit too " poppish " for my taste, but still a tight performance and a great rendition of "Hey Jealousy" and other favorites. Check out the dude on the bass. A quality player for sure. And it seemed they were enjoying themselves doing what they love , which is important to a frustrated musician as I. Sugar Ray followed, and again as there not being my cup of tea, I was skeptical. But alas! They really got the crowd pumped! Good job! I forgot how good a song " Fly " was. Now the downer. I came to see Art Alexakis and his latest rendition of Everclear. Mr. Alexakis STILL hasn't found what he's looking for but he's trying. Everclear songs have clever , intelligent and complex lyrics that must be a bear to perform live. It showed. Although, I did have a blast singing the chorus of " Santa Barbara ", which most, if not all of Summerland's tour helped out and finished the night with. A great show, that if it comes to your area and you appreciate the way 90's music rescued us, go and rock out for the evening. Peace out.
