First the negative: The crowd was weak. Blues legends at the Apollo should have brought the house down, but it was more like a politely enjoying atmosphere, which was disappointing. Even Buddy Guy's disappointment was apparent. He tried hard to get the crowd to take off with him, but nobody wanted to make a sound until after a song ended.
The positive: Uhh...when the house band is made up of Steve Jordan, Danny Kortchmar, Willie Weeks, and other accomplished performers, you know the show is going to be great. Some of the best guitarists ever were on display in their natural setting: stripped-down, masterful, collaborative blues.
