I went to see Ernie The Play by myself because I knew I would be very emotional. I grew up loving the game of baseball because my dad used to take me to the games. I remember listening to Ernie's play-by-play daily ever since. I met Ernie on several occasions, and it is true what everyone says--he treats you as if he's known you his whole life. He was always kind, gracious, and attentive in the stands, at baseball signings, and at BCBS walks at the ballpark. Just to be near him and hear him speak were privileges and memories I will hold on to forever. I knew several of the stories during Ernie's 9 innings of his life mainly from hearing him during ballgames, reading his books, and listening to his audiotapes, which I highly recommend to everyone. I didn't realize until the very end that the Ernie actor had on similar clothing that Ernie wore when he gave his final good-bye to the Tiger fans at Comerica Park. Needless to say, the actors did an excellent job in portraying the life of Ernie and a fan who so "loved" him. They deserved the standing ovation we all gave them. I think everyone should go see this play just to learn how wonderful an example Ernie was to all and how we should all be modeling our lives after his...not always "having the right" but "being kind" in our daily living. My one advice is to make sure you bring kleenex along as you will definitely shed a few tears. Your heart will be truly touched as was mine.

Mitch Albom's tribute to Ernie was phenomenal. It was exceptionally well done. Ernie's voice was part of the soundtrack of life for so many.
A tribute of this quality was well deserved and to have it be so well done made it even more special. Holding it in the Wealthy Theater where it was even more intimate, you felt as if "Ernie" was telling the story directly to you. That was the feeling so many had listening to him throughout their lives.
If you met Ernie Harwell, you knew that he spoke to you as he had known you for your entire life. In a way, he did. This play captured that feeling.
It was definitely a tribute that his family and everyone that knew him, listened to him, or had met him could be proud of seeing.
Such a man like he was comes along so rarely. A production done so well matched that.
Much thanks to all that had a part in making it happen. Just as with Ernie himself, I will remember this for a lifetime.

Just as we used to attend the ball games together, my brother and I took our 88-year old father to see "Ernie," the play about the life of long-time Tigers' broadcaster Ernie Harwell, who was such a large presence in our lives. Tightly written, and well-acted, it seems destined to become a local treasure, much like the man whose life it portrays. It is warm, witty, and touching, portraying a side of Ernie Harwell we all sensed, but was usually hidden from view by the modest man who gave us all such warmth and grace over the years.
If we're lucky, this play will run forever...during every baseball season in the years to come. And as we see the kind, gentle man that was Ernie Harwell come to life again on the stage, we see a heart-warming reminder of what goodness looks like in others, and are inspired to seek it in ourselves.

This was a wonderful 90 minutes of happy memories. Growing up in a Michigan family, my sister and I shared the same interest in baseball and the Tigers as our three brothers. Then of course, there was Ernie. We loved to listen to him as he called the games. When a game was on, so was the radio, and later the TV. ( Yes, sometimes the radio was on during school). So, I couldn't miss the opportunity to see "Ernie, The Play" when it came to the Wealthy Theatre. I hadn't expected tears, but even my husband and those around us joined me with both happy tears for great memories and sad tears for the loss of such a iconic man. It was simply a wonderful play, well written and well played, catching the essence of both Ernie Harwell and baseball.

Ernie Harwell was the ultimate story teller. When I closed my eyes I believed I was at the stadium. He had a magical way of sharing the details yet personalized the broadcast. I have learned many valuable life lessons from listening to Ernie.

I must admit I wasn't much of a baseball fan prior to this production, I had lived in MI and listened to Ernie when ever I came across a game. This was not just a story about baseball but that of a remarkable man and an amazing life. I know you will enjoy, Tiger's fan or not.

This is the first play I've seen since college. It was great. The man who played Ernie was as Ernie as you can get. It flowed great and told the story of Ernie Harwell as truthfully as possible.

This play is highly recommended to anyone who loves baseball, the Detroit Tigers, Ernie Harwell or Life! it is about all of these and more. There was not a dry eye in the theater and I would attend this play again. The man sitting next to me had seen it three times! It was definitely an experience that I would share with others.

Enjoyed the premise, the writing, the acting -- this play had it all, if you're into Tigers baseball and the legacy of Ernie Harwell! Enjoyed learning about his early life and tidbits of his personal history. Also, the Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids was a good venue. Would highly recommend!

It was excellent and should be brought back to GR, pehaps at a bigger venue so more people could enjoy it. It played to a packed house on Saturday afternoon. Both actors were excellent. I would highly recommend it.

The play Ernie was amazing. The actors were exceptional and the gentlemen who played Ernie was over the top, beyond words, an Ernie identical...just his voice brought tears to our eyes. I would recommend this play to ANYONE, young and old, even people not really familiar w/ Ernie and his life. This was one of my all time favorite venues and will NEVER forget this play or Ernie.

The simplicity of the set and story telling from the characters made the message pure and heartfelt. You felt as if Ernie was truly telling you the story of his life! When “Ernie” came out on the stage, you heard many people in the audience say “wow” because of his resemblance and speech to Ernie Harwell. Many tears were shed when “Ernie” admitted it was to be his last time at the stadium due to cancer. Would see it again… I know my grandfather, who grew up listening to him would love to see it!

The actors were outstanding. We hung on every word, so wonderfully written by Mitch Albom. The videos from years gone by brought back such great memories. We listened, we laughed and we cried. Couldn't have had a better time!

I feel so lucky to have spent an afternoon with "Ernie". This was a truly unforgettable performance by two incredibly talented actors. So many wonderful childhood memories were brought back to mind. We laughed and we cried, and we left knowing Ernie a little better than we had before. I would be the first inline to buy it on DVD, at any price. Totally awesome production.
