James Blake is a great musician. The masquerade was a poor venue to see him in last night because frankly it's hard to see anything in the flat heaven room. The people were cool and eclectic, mostly respectful. Variety or the Fox would have been more apt so as to be able to sit and really appreciate the music: true dubstep electronic music played, not DJ'd, through atmospheric and deeply soulful folk song structures. Good tunes.

James Blake, who was influential in defining the post-dubstep genre, continues to innovate... the live show was significantly different from any of his album work, but in a really good way. He took a lot of the good developments that have been made in this genre, added to them, and executed them perfectly, with the help of his drummer (amazing) and his guitarist.

I was already excited to see James Blake and he greatly exceeded my expectations! My mind was blown. He was actually better live than on the album. The lighting design enhanced the show as well.

James Blake is one of those artists who brings something special to their live performances. Nowadays it's difficult to sound better than the studio version of your album, but he does it. Didn't rely on visuals or big fancy stages. It was about the music.

The opening act was a DJ, who was lacking in terms of visual effects (he just played in the dark... Which is why this review was 4 stars instead of 5). BUT! James Blake was beyond AMAZING. I cannot wait to see him again-- he is a musical mastermind live!!!

And man, were we. This show was insane. They mixed 'Unluck' with 'Love What Happened Here' for a straight feel... they extended Limit To Your Love into something like I've never heard. CMYK made the whole place go nuts. And the balladry.. my word, just world class. James' voice sounds EXACTLY like the album(s). All the tracks from the new album were pitch perfect. 'Overgrown', 'Retrograde', 'To The Last', 'Voyeur', etc. His piano/synth playing is utterly gorgeous, and his vocal looping sits unparalleled save for maybe the likes of Tune-Yards' Merrill Garbus. I would see him 5 times in a row if I could. It all ended with a final, lone encore of "Case of You".. (Joni Mitchell cover) which made us all cry. No emotion left untouched for James.
I only wish he played 'I Mind', 'To Care (Like You)' and 'Measurements'.. but the incredible EP stuff made up for it!! All in all, absolutely brilliant. GO SEE HIM NOW. DO NOT HESITATE! GO NOW! :D

James Blake should be king. He's an incredible musician, has a voice of a god, and knows how to dance up his songs to be a KILLER live performer.
Not down tempo at all, not sullen whatsoever.... a very high energy, dancy show. awesome awesome awesome show. one of the best of all time.

James Blake sounds really nice live, well composed and in to his expression. His band is well balanced and his drummer has a lot of heart and passion for music ( playing his electronic drum pad even while it was malfunctioning in hopes that it would work again which it did ) a lot of heart. Will see him live again and wish this gentleman well!

I couldn't quite understand the things I was feeling during his performance. There was a sense of release and overall wave of okayness. James Blake's voice is both haunting and comforting. The crowd was also quite beautiful, great range of personalities and i made a couple friends. I am a fairly new fan of james blake and I've been on a high since.

First time attending an event at Liberty Hall, was pleasantly surprised with how great the venue was. Sound was spot on. James Blake was amazing live. His lovely gospel voice carried perfect live.

From the opening track (Air and Lack Thereof) to the last song, a Joni Mitchell cover, James Blake captured the attention of the audience from start to finish. The songs, known for their bassy arrangements, came through with enough bass to encourage dancing but not so much that my ears were blown. He sang remarkably well, at some points sounding better than he did on the record. Overall, I'd highly recommend it.
