Could not have enjoyed this more- despite the depressing subject matter!

The entire cast was marvelous! Music was stellar as were the musicians. Fantastic!!!

The show was great and the actors all well worth seeing. My only complaint has to do with the length of the show in total. I feel some numbers were quite repetitive,but that's just my opinion. I wouldn't treat someone who is new to musical theatre with a ticket to this show. However, definitely a must see once for most all theatre goers.

My husband and I loved the play- the actors, story and music. I ordered the CD (2CD set) with words from Amazon and listening to it right now for the first time. We could really relate- having bipolar illness in our family.

A very good performance! Not a musical for the faint of heart. Dark humor and even darker themes that will rip your heart out and make you bawl like the first time you watched a Nickolas Sparks movie. Don't worry, though! A happy ending is included!

I truly think that the actors felt their parts and were able to convey all those feelings to the audience. The singing was beautiful. And the set was quirky and interesting. I laughed and cried and think that they did the subject material justice.

What a great play about what real life can be like. It has very deep and dark moments, but some added humor as well. Next to Normal has a great cast and touches on very real subjects in our society. I would recommend this to anyone!

The voices and music were exceptional, the actors were excellent. The subject matter was presented in an amazing way and the story was stunning. I watched the audience and knew there were individuals that related to the events.

I have been wanting to see this show since I first saw one of the numbers on the Tony awards. This performance did NOT disappoint. The cast was fantastic and the show is amazing. Not a fun and breezy show, as the subject matter is pretty sobering. But I absolutely LOVED it. I was only sad to see the show was not a full house. I wish more people were out seeing this and supporting the arts on a local level. This was my first visit to this theater and I will be sure to return. If you love Broadway go see this show.

I was a bit unprepared for the depth of this show. First of all, I am not a huge fan of musicals but the reviews were awesome so I decided to check it out. WOW, the music and singing were fantastic! And the story was told very well through song. By intermission I was in tears and had to compose myself before going back in. There is a history of some mental illness in my family so I was blown away by the story. In the end, it was cathartic, but not depressing, more energizing. The story of the writing of the play in very interesting as well. I have already recommended this to my family and friends. Yes, I would see it again!

Who would think you could make a riveting musical about mental illness, electro - shock treatment & a dysfunctional family? But boy did they, with a riveting story & lyrics that told a clear story, but could stand on their own musically. The set, cast & backrround musicians were outstanding. Not knowing quite what to expect, I was blown away!

My friends that I know would attend a play would not appreciate the use of the F word. It seems that it wasn't just involved in conversation, but when it was used the player emphasized it. This is also a good learning experience that it is possible to attend a play and here vulgar language.
Beyond that, it was a good musical that I didn't feel too dark and depressing. It was smooth and continuous. The band and actors put full effort into their rolls.

Whether you have a family member who is/was diagnosed Bipolar/Schizaphrenic or not, Next to Normal is an accurate portrayal of many family units today. Who comes from a normal family anymore? What is "normal?" Mental diseases such as bipolar, depression, anxiety, different degrees of Bipolar disease, codependency are all biological diseases as are diabetes, hypertension, obesity and MS and others we all face at some time in our lives. It's not a choice.
I believe that every family has one or more relatives with some form of a mental disorder. Our stressful lives & society welcomes it. Our manufacturers and doctors supplies the pills for it. The disease will affect the entire family as shown in Next to Normal. Codependency is prevalent with families of mental disease. It tends to repeat itself from one family generation to the next regardless of twhere you stand on the argument of nurture vs. nature.
I found the play, Next to Normal an accurate portrayal into the disease. It was insightful and a brilliant attempt to eliminate the stigma that is often attached to mental disease. Making it a musical brings more joy and lightheartedness to the disease as it brought our my memories. My mother was diagnosed a bipolar/schizophrenic my entire life. And, I often used music & humor to cope with my struggles and pain over the years.
Thank you for bringing the subject matter to life through Next to Normal to the public!
