They need a track. Skating on concrete just plain sucked. No railings to bump off of, and they had to skate so slow or stopped to keep from going out of bounds. Very bad idea.

Even though Rage City showed their extraordinary skills, the Juneau Roller Girls slammed them with some hard hits which sent them to the concrete. The crowd was charged and showed signs of pride for their favorite skater. The DICS and NSO ruled the night.

For the cost of the tickets, it was not worth it. The sound system was not working properly for approximately the first half of the program, therefore, no music while the girls competed. I expected a rink and not tape on the floor to indicate the lanes. We sat in the wet section (2A) in seats that were supposedly "best available." The seats were ground level folding chairs and you could not see because of the row of people sitting in front of you. There were children running by us in the aisle and one young child out of control sitting with his parents behind us. This is not an event for young children.

Roller derby is good clean fun. The outfits are unforgettable, there are drinks if you're old enough, snow-cones in you're not. It is a scream your head off kinda fun that attracts a variety of people. It is my favorite thing to do on a Saturday night!!!

A fun first to go to! However, the sound system was not up and working for half of the bout. Ticket prices were pricey, but once in awhile viewing the sport can happen. It was a blowout in score! In the future, please schedule Anchorage teams against each other at some point in the season. The scores may be more even that way. Still a great night out with friends -

Nice to see that the women from FBX could make such a good showing. The preformance of the Sockeyes was just killer. Hope all bouts this year are as great to watch. Half time dance entertaining.

The male refs in girls' costumes, the women's "WWF" names plastered on the back of their shirts and shorts, the speed, the strategy, the blood, the tatoos, the elegant skating, the black hosiery. . . what could surpass this as entertainment? We definitely need this sport in Bethel.

If you have never seen rollerderby in person you should give it a try. This isn't the old insane derby I grew up with they seem much more controlled and the flat track is interesting, they had some pretty impressive speeds out there. These Ladies are real athletes, they work hard at their game and it shows that they enjoy doing this and putting on the show that goes with any sporting event. Good, pretty clean fun, they had something for everyone to do at the event so come on out and support your local chapters.

Overall, the experience was alot of fun! There were (free!) provided brochures that explained the rules of play and the players' names, which really helped me figure out the game as this was my first time attending. All players and refs wore helmets and guards, which I thought was pretty cool - promoting safety while competing in this sport is definately smart.
It was a great family affair in the Dry Area, as well as fun for me and my girlfriends in the provided Wet Area, with fun T-shirts to buy and Cut-Outs to pose behind in the general areas...Be Your Own Roller Derby Girl!
I think I would have had more fun if I had been once before, so I could follow and not be utterly confused, but it was still a good time and I'd like to go again.

This was our first RollerDerby. Not exactly what we expected. Some shoving and a few good spills in the 2.5 hours that we were there was all the action there was in the game. Seemed to stop and pause almost as soon as they started playing and this happened a lot. Couldn't keep the kid's attention (or ours for that matter). Thank goodness the National Guard was there with a bounce house & Guitar Hero game for them to play.
The women playing did however dress the part well and had good sportsmanship. Liked the names they gave themselves. The venue was clean and nice.

Had a good time, but I'd like to hear more as-it's-happening commentary by the announcers so I could tell why the scoreboard is changing. It's a confusing sport and the more information we hear the more we will understand it. And the more we will enjoy the bouts. Keep it up. Go 'Rage!
