The actual air sex event was hilarious. Unfortunately, the website did not advertise the ridiculous, wigged, 80's cover band before. It also listed the start time as 8pm (not doors open) and didn't really start until 10pm. Then they followed the air sex with another ridiculous, wigged, Guns 'n' Roses cover band.

1. There were maybe four acts, dragged out over two rounds. I think only one female contestant, who was the only one that was slightly entertaining.
2. Suggestion: Just go to a strip club and pay women to participate
3. This was no championship, this was like a minor league batting practice

I was extremely disappointed in this event. It sounded like it was fun, but because the stage was not elevated AT ALL, it was impossible to see anything. I left after about 20 minutes because I was just staring at the back of people's heads.

Wow, what a disappointment!
1. We arrived at 9:30 for a 10:30 show at the Mercury Lounge and were told even though we had tickets they were not allowing people in to the event until 10:30. Well if you don't want my drink money I will be happy to spend it across the street.
2. We return at 10:30 to wait in a line down and around the corner in the cold. Didn't matter if you had tickets or not. While we were in line the host of the event was begging line members to PARTICIPATE in the show? Hold on, I thought we paid to see the semi-finals not some dude off the street/line?
3. Once inside (we were towards the front) we quickly realized...How are we or anyone other then the FRONT row going to see anything! The acts were on the ground and way to close to the front of the stage for most people to see anything more then their faces. We were right, you couldn't see ANYTHING! We basically watched the event through peoples cell phone recordings.
4. We left at intermission after two women basically just danced on stage for their act.
We were very disappointed...this COULD have been awesome.

I attended the Air Sex Championships at Highline Ballroom in 2009 and was completely blown away by every part of it - from the judges who were hot, sex and funny, to the performers who were inspired, hilarious and overwhelmingly talented at making us see tremendous acts of sex being performed on nothing but air, to the air band half-time show that had me looking at my friends in awe and joy that such things exist. I stalked the internet to find this year's show, I corralled friends into comnig with me, and I sat there on Saturday night in shame and disgust over the unfathomable decline of the entire production. This year we were subjected to mediocre comics (save one local guy who was legitimately funny) as judges who were obviously told to stretch things out to make up for the small number of contestants and did so painfully, a host who was himself clearly disappointed in the whole night as he got pissy time and time again with contestants who were just having a good time having sex on the judge's table (tip for next year: maybe don't keep the macbook that powers the entire production on the judge's table with their beers), a crop of contestants who were uninspired and almost entirely talentless, a production that was so low budget that the unfunniest of judges was charged with pressing play on his ipod to start each performance, a simple task he could not accomplish (tips for next year: get rid of that dude, and have someone who isn't drinking or on stage press play to give at least the appearance of some sort of professional production), and a finals that pitted the three female contestants against one another in what amounted to little more than an obvious attempt at cheap thrills that degraded a show that is about so much more. Maybe I take my air sex too seriously, or maybe this year's show sucked asshole. In either event, I'd like my money and those three painful hours of my life back.
