There's a lot more to the circus than I remember from my childhood. Maybe they're trying to hold the attention of media-entrenched youth, but it was a sensory overload for our family. Our son, almost 3, was completely overwhelmed by the constant music, flashing lights, and boisterous announcers. It was like a high school talent show on caffeine and speed. After he emerged from his light-and-sound induced coma from the first half, our son let us know that he was ready to go back to our apartment. It would have been nice to see more animals and actual talent rather than lewd dancing and C-grade slapstick, which seemed to be a cover-up for the lack of substantial content.
2 stars is for the performing cats, without which the show would have been a total flop. Anyone who can get a cat to do anything gets my automatic respect.
