I have been a fan of the Easy Star All-Stars ever since I first came across their Dub Side of the Moon two years ago. I have been dying to see them ever since and love all of their tunes. I finally got the chance this past Thursday to see them live with my girlfriend (her first show) and we had a simply wonderful time. The venue was small (and not too loud, which was nice) and personal and you could tell everyone in attendance loved every minute.
On top of playing some of their new, original stuff, they played five or six songs from Lonely Hearts, four or five from Radiodread and about three from Dub Side. They are as good live as I could have hoped and clearly enjoyed themselves. I also liked how they performed their songs close to the album versions, though still with plenty of improve and excitement.
I would absolutely recommend seeing Easy Star to anyone if they get the chance. Even if this type of music is not your bag, I’d be surprised if you didn’t have fun. The show was full of laughter and energy, and where else will you find renditions of Dark Side of the Moon, OK Computer and Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band all under the same roof? Good times, good times indeed.
Favorite Moment: An explosive rendition of Money (from the Dub Side), with a full run of Exit Music (from Radiodread) as a transition during the instrumentals of Money, then right back in to finish off the Floyd classic.
