My wife and I recently saw John Jasperse's "Truth, Revised Histories, Wishful Thinking, and Flat Out Lies", one of Mr. Jasperse's more recent evening-length works, at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach.
Anyone who follows modern dance knows that John Jasperse is known for his spare sets (often of his own creation), his inventive and collaborative choreography, his passion for his subject matter, his passion for dance as an art form, and his ever-present humor.
I have had the good fortune to enjoy Mr. Jasperse's work periodically during the past nearly 20 years. While his style has remained distinctly his own, it is a pleasure to see how his maturity as a dancer and choreographer has developed through the years.
In short, if you are at all interested in the art form that is modern dance, take advantage of any opportunity to see the John Jasperse Company. Your effort will be generously rewarded.
