Nietzsche said in his "Parable of the Madman", "Do we not need to light lanterns in the morning?" The Screwtape Letters is a reflected light, performed with light and sound to arouse in us the truth that is the true light, God. Those who have ears, listen. This call to pay attention to our every act and motive is difficult, but for our own good, so that we may be conformed to Christ and his will. The stage is set at an angle, to posture the actors in angled, abnormal stances. The sound is loud (too loud?) making us uncomfortable. Perhaps the discomfort of Hell? The text is understandable for those who have previously read it. For those who are new (as were two of my guests) it was difficult. Well worth the price of admission. I'm lazy. I never quite finished the book. Now I know how it ends!
