Often you go to see a band, even a band whose music you know really well, and you are blown away seeing it live. Sometimes it is so good, you start thinking about buying tickets for the next few shows around the country, and following the band instead of working. This was one of those nights. The venue, Mercury Lounge, is small- essentially the back room of a bar, but they have massive experience of putting on a show and the sound was fantastic; but, probably more importantly, the venue was small enough to feel like you were really up close with Slim, Munly and the rest of the band, and so the atmosphere really couldn't be beaten. The songs, the camaraderie on stage.... seriously you had to be there.
I have seen a lot of reviews where people say that even if you didn't know the band before, you would enjoy the concert; the problem with this sort of review is that you really only go to a gig if you do already know and like the band. However, for this Slim Cessna's Auto Club show a friend came along who really didn't know the band's music (or even what sort of music they played) at all; he said they were fantastic too.
Bottom line- if you are reading this review and didn't go to the show.... you should have.
