NOTE: Do not read the book before or be prepared to detach yourself from the book while watching.
Bravo to the Stage crew. Amazing job throughout the whole performance.
Teal Wicks, Elphaba, is amazing. Great voice and great with the scores.
Kendra Kassebaum, Glinda, is fair. The combination of her over exaggerate character compared to the book, her voice, and her voice while singing all turned me off. I felt the story focused too much on her character, which is partly necessary for the plot. If I wanted to see that much of her character, then I could have seen Legally Blond and enjoyed it more.
Eddy Rioseco, Boq, has a great voice in the few parts he did sing.
Lee Wilkof, the Wizard, really pulls you into his character.
We went to a Tuesday night show with 2 great understudies for the characters of Nessarose (Natalie Daradich) and Madame Morrible (Fiama Fricano). Teal Wicks did wonderful, but I'd like to see Natalie Daradich as Elphaba or I wish she stepped in for Kendra Kassebaum as Glinda (which she is the standby).
Everyone else was pretty average.
Orchestra and Bryan Perri, Conductor, did great. Some very powerful and strong scores. Unfortunately, a handful of them are mixed with different tempos, which weaken them. Mix the average scores with the average voices and you get just average overall.
Costumes and choreography were very modern, which I am not a fan of at all.
Overall, if you really want to see it, I'd still recommend it. If you are questionable, then I'd find a good sale like I did.
