I was surprised that the story could be condensed into a two-hour play. I found it tntertaining but not great. The Gatsby character didn't match my expectations. The "Jordan Baker" character stood out.

The Great Gatsby is a good story. I was totally involved in the story throughout the play which means the actors were doing their jobs. I didn't find any one player particularly outstanding, but the cast played well together. The minimal sets were spectacular to me. I could get totally involved in the implied spaces. Along with the terrific costuming, I was transported to the 20's without problem The insanity of the drive for money resonated throughout the play and the absolute moral absence of the main characters was abundantly clear. All in all an afternoon well spent.

Location:We summer in E Mesa and the drive was easy.
We had an outstanding evening. It was our first time to the Herberger Theater. It was so comfortable and a little wine on the 2nd floor patio added to our evening. II was very interested in how a play like this could get theme of the book across. The actors all did an outstanding job. We could hear them in the balcony. The actors portrayed the characters like I would expect after rereading the book.

My husband and I went to this theater for the first time and we're very impressed. It's an intimate theater so any seat is a good seat. The actors were wonderful and we truly enjoyed the individual contributions to the story. We'll be back for another show for sure.

I've never read the book prior to watching the play, but each scene was mesmerizing and full of great acting. I love the conflicted emotions that the characters had to portray and try to overcome. The dialogue, wardrobes, and music really made you feel like you were in the 20's.

I saw this play with my husband and we both enjoyed it very much. It had been several years since I read the book which is one of my favorites and the play reminded me of why I love the book so much. The actors were great and the set-up of the play was great. We enjoyed the constant movement versus taking breaks to change scenes. Very creative. Would highly recommend the play.

The interpretation was very good and also conservative. It stuck to the F. Scott Fitzgerald's book very closely and it was easy to forget where you were and to get involved in the story. The acting was great and a real pleasure to watch!

Very ordinary, going through the motions performance. Only the woman who portrayed Jordan put any life into her acting. Everyone else was rather stilted.

I can't say I go to many live theatre performances. The book had made such an un-dullable impression on me so many years ago I just couldn't resist going. I had high expectations going into it and was wondering how or if they could engage and demonstrate the complex nature of the characters as well as their idealized emotions. I was amazed, I will admit, much like many good movies & books, during the first several acts of character development, I wasn't quite sure if it was going to develop well. It did. The entire second half really came together nicely in the screenplay. Every single actor was top notch, gave their characters real heart & 110% effort every second of the performance. Very special. GO! Go early for full prologe - worth it, practically necessary to get full 1920's effect. Lady's, thank you for dressing in period! ;-)

I just have to say it was a strong 6 out of 10. Overpaid for the tickets. Love live theater however at times it felt to me that there wasn't always a connection between characters. Maybe it's just hard to relate to characters set in the 1920's. Who knows.

I'm sorry to say that this show was quite disappointing. Some of the actors did a great job and the costumes and sets were very creative and clever at times. On the whole, however, the play just did not hang together well. The cast did not seem to have much energy and the story didn't hold together much of the time. The action moved so slowly at times that I thought I'd fall asleep. The show had potential but it was not realized.
