I didn't realize that Glen Hansard was opening until a few days before the show, and I was thrilled to discover it. His opening act was very intense and his song work blends well with Eddie's style.
This was my first time seeing Eddie Vedder solo. I'd been a Pearl Jam fan since the early days and seen many shows of him with the band and have never been disappointed. I was curious to see if he would be as good without the band, and happily (yet unsurprisingly) the answer was yes. The show was amazing. I can't remember the setlist, but I do remember being thrilled with every new song played. Eddie enjoys storytelling between songs, and he was as enjoyable to listen to as always. The setlist was varied, with songs from PJ and both of his solo albums, as well as a few covers. The duets with Glen towards the end were a high point for me, they are both powerful musicians and they were really amazing together.
The show was amazing and I would highly recommend catching it to anyone who enjoys Eddie's music.
The only negative to the show was that despite the posted notices and an announcement before the show calling attention to the 'no photography' policy, it wasn't enforced. People caught taking photos (with flashes and brightly back lit phones/cameras) were talked to, but not ejected, and continued to do so throughout the show. It's frustrating to pay so much for seats to an event like this and having my view ruined by people who can't turn their phones off. At the end of the evening, when Eddie was playing with all of the theater lights on (a brilliant idea) the flashes and cell phone lights weren't noticeable. I would not take issue with photography at that point, but it's very distracting in the dark. It was a distraction and the only downside to an otherwise perfect show.
