My husband and I had never seen roller derby in person and really enjoyed it. One thing would have made it a lot more enjoyable and that's knowing we could have bought chairs. I thought I looked very carefully at the information when purchasing the tickets and never saw this mentioned.

Spend the extra few bucks and buy the VIP tickets but don't wait until just before 7 to get there. You want to get a good seat in the VIP area. There may be chairs and all but you still don't have an assigned seat and want to get a prime viewing spot. If you get the GA tickets you'll find yourself standing for 2+ hours or sitting on the hard floor. Just a word of advice from this middle aged gal.
For your ticket you get a garage band, hilarious (but informative) announcers, a few in the crowd promotions, two hour long games and if your lucky like we were you meet some very cool people who are having fun too!
This is not the roller derby of your Saturday mornings as a kid...these gals follow league rules, play hard and have some mad skating skills. Plus very cool names: Bustin' Beaver, Rapid Monkey (which we thought was Rabid Monkey most of the night!), Jekyll & Heidi, Mayhem Angelou and this one Fright Train that kicked some serious skating butt.
The usual overpriced Bayou Place booze is available, they sell some cool merch for the roller derby teams and it's good clean fun...bring your family.

My husband and I took our two teenage daughters to roller derby. We had never been to one before, so this was a first for all of us. It was awesome! Great family fun! I have to say that the floor close to the track has the best view for action. If possible get VIP seating! The roller girls were super nice as well. I got pictures with quite a few of them. We will definitely do this again!

Personal attention at the door, the volunteers help you find a seat and answer questions, easy trackside viewing, awesome VIP seating really impressed me as a first time attendee. The action on the track was great, the commentators were non-stop with play-by-play and fan interaction with the teams after each bout was really cool to see. The only thing i can to make it better would be a replay screen. I wish I made it to the after party to meet all those ladies, they were fantastic.
