**** 4 stars for Petty Theft
* 1 star for Zoo Station
Bottom line: Petty Theft got an encore as the opening act, and Zoo Station didn't as the headliner. That says it all and means I was not the only one that liked Petty Theft more than Zoo Station.
Petty Theft opened the show, and these guys didn't try to look like them or move like them they just PLAYED like them. Great musicianship, great sound, I'd see them again and recommend them to anyone that loves Tom Petty or just loves to listen to a talented band.
Zoo Station "headlined" the show, and they were nowhere near as good as Petty Theft. The lead singer had a leather outfit on and Bono glasses and he moved like Bono and tried to talk like Bono, but he cannot SING like Bono at all. So here's the problem, if you're going to try and BE Bono you have to sound like him too. Otherwise just go up and play your version of the U2 songs and rock it just like Petty Theft did. Also, the sound was very empty and lacking, because anyone that knows U2 knows that Edge comes with tons of prerecorded audio to fill in for all the produced sounds on the CDs. Another thing, "Fake Bono" spent a ton of time running around in the audience which really took away from the show because when he did this no one could see him except for the people that he was standing near and the band wasn't doing anything special to draw your attention to them. This behavior just didn't fit the venue and made him look stupid.
So, I would see Petty Theft again and they need to headline or be the only band playing. I would not see Zoo Station again, even if it was free admission.
