The band was in top form, playing nearly everything from their debut album and their just released sophomore effort; brought my 15-year old son and one of his friends, as my wife was sick. Saw them this summer in the pouring rain at the All Points West festival in Jersey City and they were my favorite band of the festival - and the favorite of my son and his friend (they're both musicians). I've probably averaged seeing 25-35 bands a year for over 3 decades and these guys are probably in my top ~20 live bands ever. Musically, they were very tight and Ezra;s vocals were spot on the whole evening. The sound mix was great, too, as opposed to the muddy sound that Titus Andronicus suffered from, unfortunately - saw TA a year ago opening for Los Campesinos at the Bowery Ballroom and they were much better - too bad on the poor mix. Anyway, there was nary a weak song in the set and they added a string quartet for 3-4 songs, which was a nice touch, rounding out the sound. Personal song highlights were Oxford Comma, A Punk and One, from the first album and White Sky, Diplomat's Son and Cousins from the new album - and, of course, my favorite Vampire Weekend song (and one of my all-time favorite songs ever), Walcott, as the encore closer. Great show - these guys are simply much better live than on recordings - and they're not bad on recordings, either.
