Favorite moment: Igor and Frederick broke character and thanked a person for reciting the next line. It was quite fun! @

What a fun event! No, it is not a thought-provoking, deep and inspiring play, but it was fun, entertaining and very enjoyable. I am glad I didn't listen to the critics. I had heard some very negative things before going, and I must not have been the only one because there were many empty seats. I overheard the people behind me saying that they had attended most of the recent plays in Chicago, and also enjoyed this remake of a classic movie. Do yourself a favor and experience Young Frankenstein for yourself!

This was quite competently done - very good performances. There were some technical glitches, but not bad and expected in a preview. We were in the front house left, and the sound system was bad at the beginning. The orchestra sounded very much like a recording. It was not bad as the show went on; I don't know if I got used to it or if it was corrected. Sightlines were horrible. The stack of speakers totally obscured the whole bit with the wall/bookcase, as well as other things happening on stage right.
I was dissapointed that it was such a straight copy of the movie; one of the most brilliant movies of all time. I guess the show is called Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, but I was unprepared for how close it was. All the performers were quite good, but they played Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Terri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn ... even Mel Brooks! They did not bring anything new. But I suppose the production is stuck; if they were different, they would be in trouble, and if they were the same, they would be in trouble.
I would reccomend to those who are not familair with the movie, and to those who have not seen as many musicals. Those people would LOVE it! I merely liked it.
