Musically they were very good. The mix was often off. Difficult to hear some leads. Or when they brought the lady out with the harp (She's Leaving Home and Across The Universe) it was hard to hear and they put her out front and center.
They had a cello and violin pair and a horn section who did very well I would say relative to song accuracy.
They played a bunch of non-Pepper stuff in the first set. I really enjoyed "Old Brown Shoe". Where will you ever hear that live?! Then the second set after a 20-30 minute intermission was Sgt. Pepper, then Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields (as they were suppose to be on the album), encore was I'm Down and Day Tripper.
Right before While My Guitar Gently Weeps the bassist switched to a Fender Jazz FG (only song with that) and the guitarist said "In 1968 he switched to this bass" … Hmm? Bassist typically played an off-white (Chris Squire bass color) Ric 4003 w/ triangle inlays … why not the 4001C64??? Or that 4001V63 FG in the you tube video??? He did play a Hofner on some songs.
Sometimes they would add some fancy stuff in the middle or end of a song so everything was not exactly like the record.
Strange that they wouldn't use the exact correct instruments for the songs. I could have lent them the correct ones! The Tribute bands are much more exact on that. The one guitarist played the Sitar very good on Within You Without You. That was cool. The only time they used a Ric 325 was during Day Tripper. The one guitarist used a Revolution Casino w/ Bigsby upside down as he is left-handed, a lefty J-160E, and a lefty 1965 Casino-looking single cutaway, a Teley MG, Ric 360/12, Acoustic 12, and some others. The other used a Les Paul, Rosewood Teley, "Rocky" Strat, and some others. Drummer had tow sets of drums side-by-side.
Constant guitar changes and the time for the lead cord to get switched, and effects changed, even with crew assist, was somewhat annoying. The bassist used wireless. Why didn't the guitarists? Actually disrupted the flow of songs on the Sgt. Pepper album.
Some errors though:
1) "Not A Second Time" - the drummer did not get the drum part right .. Noooo no no, not a second tiiiiime ... Ba ba ba ba … I was patting this on my legs and thought "what went wrong?" , then he did it again and I knew he was wrong.
2) "Good Morning, Good Morning" - the guitarist was out of phase during the lead – very strange
3) "Ballad of John & Yoko" – they missed the short piano part … the way things are goin' they're gonna crucify me … ding ding ding ding goes the piano … except it didn't go at the concert
Plus a couple of others I cannot remember now. I do know my Beatles songs – as good or better than they do.
4) "She's Leaving Home" - Microphone failed and bassist, who was singing, had to hold the cord a certain way for it to work while singing. Great recovery. They changed that out quickly
