That's what the Joffrey Ballet's Nutcracker will do for you if you have never seen a ballet before. Their presentation will make you a fan of this extraordinary form of artistry forever. It certainly has done that for me. This is a ballet of grace and athletic skill, believe it or not, because the dancers are so beautifully trained and focused, and elegant beyond words, when combined with the music of the Nutcracker, provides one with an unbelievable afternoon or evening of theatre you will not soon forget.
Joffrey's principles are equal to the finest ballet dancers in the world and that is not hyperbole as their reputation is known around the world and respected as such. I loved seeing the Joffrey Ballet's Nutcracker! I have seen previous performances by other companies, and the Joffrey Ballet gave the most spectacular performance of all! The orchestra was wonderful too. I flew my 11 year old niece from California to see the show, and it was well worth it.
Not related to the performance at all, but if someone has a young child (two to three years old), kindly refrain from bringing them to a ballet. It was annoying to hear a father behind me narrate the entire show to his young child, who in turn, kept asking if he could, "go home now." Perhaps four and above would be more age appropriate. There were other parents who did the same, but this man was just too loud.

First time for Joffre, first time for a professional Nutcracker. The family enjoyed themselves before, during and after the presentation. This was a first time for me at the auditorium. The acoustics were, indeed, perfect.. I liked the orchestra, I liked the colors, the movement of the dancers. I liked all of the first act and I liked almost all of the second, but that's my taste. I even liked the way the dancers swirled the snow on the stage floor at the end of the first act.

Cons: The miking was extremely poor I could not hear a word they were singing.

Like so many others, for us the Nutcracker is a family tradition...started by my mom taking brother and I when we were in our early teens. (Did we fight it? You bet! But she insisted. Said we needed a bit of "culture". Boy, how right she was!) Since then, I've watched my husband, my stepkids, and now my granddaughter, react exactly the same way my brother and I did. Which is to say, complaining to anyone who would listen that they were being "made" to go to the ballet and rolling their eyes all the way to the front door of the beautiful Auditorium Theatre...then suddenly silent and unblinking at their first performance (now I miss most of the show just watching their reactions). You know it's good when they ask if we "get" to go back next year! This can be a pricey event (made more affordable this year thanks to the Joffrey's Christmas in July special. Thank you Joffrey!!), but oh so worth it. We've tried to mix it up (and save money) in the past by going to local performances, but funny; we'd then spend our dinner conversation comparing the stage, the costumes, and sometimes even the dancers to the Joffrey's. This is definately the 'gold standard'!

Took my wife to see the Nutcracker in Chicago as a Christmas present and she absolutely loved it! I'm not going to lie I was very entertained as well. It was my first ballet and I prefer watching sports but it was really impressed with how entertaining and skilled the ballet was. I would recommend this to anyone young or old male or female!

Loved the Land of Snow Scene and Grand Finale, both scenes are very well developed into the fliow of the ballet. Me and my seven years old daugter felt refreshed and happy to share this event in our life.

My daughter and I have a Christmas tradition of attending the Nutcracker by the Joffrey Ballet and we are never disappointed by the performance. I look forward every year to the spectacular display of artistry not only by the dancers but by the orchestra as well.

Going to the Nutcracker is a tradition for my daughter and me. This was our 26th ballet and we were not disappointed. The venue was spectacular, the music perfect, the dancing superb. We have seen all kinds of interpretations of the story and this version was a little odd for me. I enjoy all the variations I have seen in the past (in Houston, OKC, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, and more. We're Texans so most have been there) but 3 things confused me---the age of the brother's character, the Uncle's presence in the Land of Sweets rather than the Prince, and the lack of a difference between the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy. We attended the Dec. 27th afternoon performance and so many changes in dancers seemed to have been made so that may explain this. The costuming and sets, though good, were not the eye-popping, mouth-dropping designs we have seen. I loved seeing lots of male dancers which many companies don't have. I expected the Joffrey Ballet to have amazing dancers and they did. Thank-you for a wonderful afternoon.

The show was ok. Bu the seating arrangement in the Balcony is awful. You cannot see anything if you are in row 2 of the balcony. It's not worth buying tickets for those seats. Everybody basically saw the show standing.
