Went to Showcase Live in Foxboro MA last night, 12/28/2011, to see The Machine, A Pink Floyd tribute band. First off, what a nice Venue, great stage, reasonably priced food and cocktails, plenty of free parking, attentive waitstaff. This was my first time at this venue and I was definitely impressed. I have seen The Machine play at least a dozen times over the years all across New England. Every time I've seen them I've been blown away with their talent, their professionalism, and their attention to detail. They always left me wanting more, and I would tell everybody how awesome they were. Last night was a complete train wreck from the first note. I haven't seen them in several years, and the first thing I noticed was that the only member I recognized was the bass player. I have never seen the other 3 members of the band until last night. They were all extremely talented, BUT, they were NOT Pinkk Floyd. That band used to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time I saw them. I guess those days are over. One of the highlights of their shows used to be "wish you were here", with the most insanely accurate guitar playing to go along with it. From the 12 string intro to the mind blowing electric solo in the middle, it was ridiculious!!! Last night, the "mind blowing" guitar solo in the middle of the song consisted of some horrific noises coming out of what sounded like a childs toy keyboard. What a disgrace to what this band once was. With all the new members in this band, and their own versions of Pink Floyd's amazing music, I really think they should have changed the name of the band as well. Had I known any of this going in, I never would have gone to see them. Once again, very talented musicians, I can't take that away from them, but not even close to the epic performances that I have seen in the past.
