While MJ was alive, I was skeptical of Chris Brown. He would often dance well, but he would often joke in his performance and there was not a seriousness in his craft. However, after MJ's death, his tribute to MJ on the BET Awards, the She Ain't You video, and a more grown up appeal on his most recent CD FAME changed my mind.
When I went to his tour in the ATL in December of 2011, I did not know what to expect. I had pretty good seats and thought I had seen it all- Janet, Usher and MJ - who was even going to try to go there. However, I was already a fan of the CD with all of its hit songs. The beginning of the FAME tour performances were awesome. (Wow-they even allowed cameras). There was the nostalgic flash before the eyes intro that many superstars before him had done, but it had his own flair. Then I noticed the dancing. Chris Brown was dancing like crazy and was full of energy. He was reminding me of MJ in his prime. I was asking myself: Is he going to rest?
I had seen footage of Chris Brown's first few tours and was not as impressed as I was with seeing him live on this one. I expect that the release of Fortune and the next tour will have him selling out stadiums. If he continues on a righteous path and continues to claim wonderful dance moves such as those in Turn the music up, then he will be an unstoppable force.
