Once again, Theater in the Park out did themselves! Our family has been attending this play off and on for thirty years, and we were not disappointed!! Ira David Wood IV's performance was outstanding - he stepped into his father's shoes and they fit!!! His energy, his gestures - even his voice were almost indistinguishable from his dad's. This year we included our 5 and 7 year old granddaughters, and they were entranced throughout the entire play!! Kudos and Merry Christmas!!

I am hooked on going to see the play every year. I have been a big fan of both Ira and David Wood. Ira was wonderful as Scrooge, as with all his various part in the play in the past. The show was terrific as always. The show can't help but put you in the best Christmas spirit.

Our family of four, including two teenage boys, insist on this holiday tradition every year! It is an amazing production and Ira David Wood is fabulous. The show is touching, magical, funny, and filled with the spirit of the holidays! This year's performance tugged at the heartstrings a little more than usual, but that's what makes it so special!

I wasn't expecting the slapstick humor. Production was good, jokes were funny, several touching and poignant moments... it's very popular and I get why people like it, but for me I don't think the original script needs help. My teens were disappointed as they love the story the way it was written.

Just a couple of things. When Scrooge was taking presents to Tiny Tim and family, he said "Let's march like Uncle Paul taught us". THe Uncle Paul show" was a local TV show in the late 60's and 70's. Live and totally unscripted with kids! Paul Montgomery was legally blind but you never would have known. He played the organ and piano (I think) and you just never knew what he was going to do next. The kids would march with Uncle Paul in a circle to the music that was played during the play during that scene. He always wore a top hat and tux. Wonderful childhood memories of watching it on WRAL as a child and actually marching with him as a child!! Local legend and beloved TV personality.
To those who thought it was cheesy and couldn't understand why it has been playing for 38 years, you just wouldn't understand. I've been going for years and it is a family tradition to attend. Ira David Wood III and Ira David Wood IV are incredible performers. Can't imagine not enjoying the play. Please don't trash the play just because you didn't like it. My 20 year old and 16 year old loved it this year like they have every year since they were 5. A 38 year run is awesome and says something to the quality of the show.

Their play was wonderful! I didn't know it was comedy Christmas Carol . It made Audience laugh and happy. I really liked it and I wish I could see one more time.

I wasn't sure what to expect but the traditional story is there with some changes. It's kinda cheesy but I was still laughing. Ira David Wood III as Scrooge did a wonderful job. Throwing in jokes relative to this year was a great touch. I'm told you can go every year and it will be a little different. There was one thing I didn't get. They were taking the presents to the Cratchits and he said we're gonna do it like Pa used to (or he may have said like Pa showed us) and everyone laughed. My mom didn't know what it was in refernece to either. An old show? Not sure. Someone please enlighten me.

Wow!! I can't get over how funny, tender, and professional this production was. I brought my daughter and she also loved it. I will be back for this every year!!! I will also check out Ira David Wood's III Theater in the Park series.

This comedy musical version of A Christmas Carol is sometimes clever and amusing, but in the end way too cheesy and glib. I expected more, considering the price and the usual high quality of Broadway shows that I've seen at DPAC. This is community theater and had some "in" jokes about the Raleigh area that you don't get if you're not from around there and in touch with the local news (like one joke about the Wake County School System that got a big laugh, but I had no idea if it was referencing something like budget issues or some recent controversy???). Overall the show is cute and enjoyable and perhaps fun for a family or group in the Raleigh area, but I wouldn't recommend traveling from another state to see it.

It's impossible for me to grasp how this show has been running for 38 years. My only theory is that everyone in the audience had a family member in the play. This was embarrassingly bad. Within the first 10 minutes my wife and son and I began exchanging looks at each other. I knew this was going to be an untraditional rendering of Dicken's classic story but I didn't know it would be THIS untraditional. I know Ira David Wood III is a local hero but I'm sorry, his rendition of Scrooge was so grating it hurt when he spoke (in a Southern drawl that sounded like Dana Carvey's Church Lady). The jokes were forced (viagra? Blue Cross Blue Shield? Obama? Shooting Rudolph?) and there would be loooong stretches where Mr. Wood would be mugging on stage with a single prop (a horn, a TIC-TAC!). Suffice to say I paid a LOT for these tickets and feel extremely ripped off. We walked out after the first act when we realized the ghosts had not even appeared yet and nobody was excited to watch the rest of the show. Do yourself a favor and stay home with the family, get some hot chocolate and watch one of the MANY superior adaptations on Video. You'll be the better (and wealthier) for it.
